Being patient
“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord” - James 5 v7
In our eyes patience can be seen as sitting and waiting. The Bible however gives this word a very different meaning:
“To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life” (Romans 2 v 7)
Here we read about patience, a call to act and be prepared. If we can learn this patience it will result in us giving glory and honour to God.
We, like the people James was writing to, have to be patient, waiting for the coming of the Lord. We must constantly remember that our Saviour, and our coming King will return, and we must have our lamps full of oil, patiently preparing ourselves.
Let us cast our minds back to Noah. Noah had probably never seen rain, let alone a flood; however, he patiently built the ark, because God told him to. The people around him must have laughed, but Noah knew that if he obeyed God he would be saved.
As a result of Noah's patience he was saved from the flood, but while he waited, he was not sitting doing nothing; he was busy preparing himself in the way God had told him.
Just like Noah, we too have been told to prepare ourselves, not for a flood, but for the return of the Lord Jesus. A day that will soon come, when all evil will be wiped off the earth again. Let us therefore be patient, unto the coming of our Lord.
